The 2026 Open at Taranis

The 2026 CrossFit Open is almost here, and as promised, we are doing things a bit differently this year!

We are calling it the Taranis Community Open; you participate individually, earning points to contribute to your team.

The Taranis Community Open is our 3-week, in-house TEAM competition, running alongside the official 2026 CrossFit Games Open.

  • 1 workout per week

  • Saturday mornings 9 am -12:30 pm

  • February 26 – March 16

  • Registration deadline is Feb 20 - end of day.

Ways you can participate:

  • Compete

  • Judge → It's not necessary to compete; you can just judge!

  • Volunteer/Support

If you’re on the fence, consider this your invitation to play, participate, and be part of something together.

Who is this for? - Everyone.

This is a competition suited for every Taranis athlete. It does not matter your fitness level, or previous competition experience, or whether you consider yourself competitive or not. Everyone who signs up can earn and contribute points to their respective team. At Taranis, we value all members, and this competition is designed to reflect that and reward those who embody the culture of our wonderful community.

How it works

  • Everyone who signs up will be automatically placed on a team. Steve, Sully and Jackie will take all registrations and build balanced teams.

Each week, teams earn points based on:

  • Workout performance relative to other Taranis athletes

  • Both Rx and Scaled divisions score independently

  • Yes, we certainly do enjoy a leaderboard, but WOD performance is not the whole story!

→ Bonus points (aka: where the magic happens ✨)

We are an inclusive community, and as such, we have created a bonus point system for all participants to earn more points for their team. Here are a few:

  • Showing up on Saturdays - can't train on Sat? See FAQ below

  • Judging fellow athletes

  • Team spirit (we see you cheering and celebrating wins)

  • Hitting a personal PRs (we see you working on those gymnastics skills and double unders)

  • Plus other fun challenges we'll share once you sign up.

Do you have to register for the official CrossFit Open?

Nope. No pressure.

  • You do not need to sign up for the official CrossFit Open

  • If you do choose to register for the CrossFit Open, your WOD score is used for both the CF Open and our Taranis Community Open.

We understand this can be confusing, so think of it as:

  1. Taranis Community Open = our in-house team-based experience

  2. 2026 CrossFit Open = optional extra layer if you want it, registration via CrossFit Games for a global experience. See FAQ for more info

How to sign up

Option 1: You ARE registering for the official CrossFit Open

Option 2: You are NOT registering for the CrossFit Open

That’s all you need to do for now. Once you sign up, we'll send you an email with more details of the specifics.

Quick FAQs

→I usually scale. Can I still participate?
Absolutely. Scaled athletes can earn just as many points as Rx athletes.

→I can’t train on Saturdays. Can I still register for the Open?
Yes. If you’re registered for the CrossFit Open but can’t make Saturdays, you’ll just need to arrange a judge for an alternate day/time, same as in past years. Your score will still count.

→What IS the 2026 CrossFit Open??

The CrossFit Open is a worldwide, annual CrossFit event that runs for 3 weeks. Each week, CrossFit releases one workout that people complete at their home gym. It’s designed to be: Accessible to all levels (Rx, Scaled, and beginner-friendly options), Community-based, not elite-only. It is the first stage of the CrossFit Games season. Globally, a huge number of athletes participate. Some do the Open to advance to the later stages of competition that eventually culminate in the CrossFit Games.

→What if I need to video my workouts for The CrossFit Open qualification?
No problem. You can still be on a team; you’ll simply complete your workout outside the Saturday WOD times.

More event details will be shared with everyone who signs up. If you have any questions, please ask!
