Physiotherapy
Katie Schmit, MPT, BKIN, FCAMPT, CFL1, Owner of Taranis Physiotherapy.
Katie’s philosophy: 6-8 weeks of rest isn’t always the best answer to rehab. Let’s keep you engaged in your activity as much as possible, while targeting muscle imbalances and reducing pain.
Katie has completed an advanced practice fellowship with the Canadian Academy of Manual and Manipulative Therapists (FCAMPT) and has taken courses that have added functional dry needling (IMS), mobilization with movement, concussion and vestibular therapy, as well as temporomandibular disorder therapy to her treatment modalities. Additionally, she is CrossFit Level 1 Certified and an athlete at Taranis Athletics.

FAQs
-
Not at all! Many clients come for general tune-ups, movement screens, and competition prep.
-
Depending on your appointment type, you’ll want comfortable clothing you can move in, layers you can remove with ease or shorts you can change into.
-
IMS (Intramuscular Stimulation) is a form of dry needling used to release tight, irritated, or overactive muscles.
Very thin, sterile needles are inserted into trigger points or shortened muscle bands to help them relax, reduce pain, and restore normal movement.
IMS targets the deeper layers of muscle, making it especially effective for chronic tension, nerve-related pain, and movement restrictions.
Many people feel a noticeable release immediately, followed by improved mobility and decreased discomfort.
-
Physiotherapy and Athletic Therapy both help you reduce pain, restore movement, and get back to doing what you love — they just come at it from slightly different angles.
Physiotherapy focuses on assessing, treating, and managing injuries and movement issues using clinical, evidence-based approaches. Physios often work with a wide range of people, from everyday movers to post-operative clients, supporting pain reduction, joint mobility, stability, and functional strength.
Athletic Therapy uses many of the same rehab techniques but with a performance lens. Athletic Therapists specialize in injury assessment, movement mechanics, strength restoration, and returning people to higher-level activity. They are especially skilled with active rehab — hands-on treatment plus movement-based training.
At Taranis, both work together under our Rehab & Performance Therapy umbrella so you get the right approach for your goals, whether that’s pain-free daily life, faster recovery, or sport-specific performance.
