2026 CF Open at Taranis

The CrossFit Open and Taranis Community Open!

The Taranis Community Open is our 3-week, in-house TEAM competition, running alongside the official 2026 CrossFit Games Open. 1 workout per week, 3 weeks of fun!

This is a competition suited for every Taranis athlete. It does not matter your fitness level, or previous competition experience, or whether you consider yourself competitive or not. Everyone who signs up can earn and contribute points to their respective team. At Taranis, we value all members, and this competition is designed to reflect that and reward those who embody the culture of our wonderful community.

Saturday’s are the magic!

Feb 26 to March 15, we will be running the weekly Open workout on Saturdays from 830am -12 pm. Whether you’ve officially registered for the CrossFit Open/Taranis Community Open or not, for the next 3 weeks, you’ll notice an extra buzz around the gym!

Teams and Points

Everyone who signs up will be automatically placed on a team. Steve, Sully and Jackie will take all registrations and build balanced teams.

Each week, teams earn points based on:

  • Workout performance relative to other Taranis athletes

  • Both Rx, Scaled and Masters divisions score independently

Yes, we certainly do enjoy a leaderboard, but WOD performance is not the whole story!

→ Bonus points (aka: where the magic happens ✨)

We are an inclusive community, and as such, we have created a bonus point system for all participants to earn more points for their team. See below for more details

SOME FAQ’s - more listed down the page

What are the 3 work outs?

  • Saturday's workout is unknown to us until Thursday afternoon, so it won't be posted in our app until then each week. You can go to CrossFit Games site to see work out standards and options after it’s been announced every Thursday at 12pm PST

Will participating on Staurday count as a regular class attendance?

  • Saturdays for the next 3 weeks will NOT count as a regular class on your membership.

If you are NOT registered for the Open: but still want to work out on Saturday, you absolutely can. You just need to understand how the flow will work.

If you are a 3.0 Membership athlete: you have a training block from 11:30 -1pm. With the structure of the Open, we can't have 3.0 running during the WODs because, as most of you will know, we will need the whole gym to make this happen.

If you are registered for the Open: we are hoping you can do your OPEN workout during the next 3 Saturdays. IF YOU CAN'T do the Open workout on Saturdays: No problem. You can still earn points for your team by doing your Open work out any other time between Thursday 2pm to Monday 2pm each week.

  • How do you do this?? Find someone who will be willing to judge you, agree on a time that works for both of you, and email steve@taranisathletics.com to let him know when you want to do your workout. If you can't find a judge, we might be able to help you out, but please do your best to ask a teammate (they score a point for judging you!) Either Steve, Jackie or Vanessa will be at the gym for the time you need to give you an official WOD brief.

How Saturday Flow Works

You must arrive at the start time you have reserved. PLEASE RESERVE

For example:
If you are signed up for the 8:30am class, you arrive at 8:30am or before.

First 30 Minutes (WOD Brief + Prep)

  • You’ll join Jackie and Vanessa for the workout brief in Bay 3.

  • We’ll go over standards, WOD flow and a bit of strategy.

  • You’ll warm up and prepare for the workout.

Second 30 Minutes (Workout Heats Begin)

  • At 9:00am, the first heats for the 8:30 class begin.

  • If you are not competing in the Open, you will still be a part of these heats; you just won’t need a judge.

  • Meanwhile, the 9:00am start time athletes will arrive and begin their warm-up and WOD brief process with Jackie and Vanessa. The flow continues in this way as the morning goes on.

If you are late, you disrupt the heat assignments and the judging flow.
Please treat your start time seriously.

SUPER IMPORTANT ABOUT SCORE SUBMISSION

  • Athletes will submit their scores into Push Press each week into the Saturday WOD based on which category (Rx, scaled or masters 55+) they performed the workout. Scores need to be submitted into Push Press by Monday 3pm.

  • If an athlete is also registered for the CrossFit Open, they must submit their score in BOTH Push Press and on the CrossFit Games website.

Community Points System:

We want to foster the amazing community spirit that can be found daily in the gym. Teams can earn bonus points each week for showcasing this spirit in the following ways:

  • 1 point will be awarded for each athlete who does their workout on Saturdays AND ENTERS THEIR SCORE

  • 1 point will be awarded each time a member judges another athlete for an Open workout

  • 1-3 points for team spirit (awarded by the coaches to a team each week)

  • 1-3 points for "The People's Champ" (awarded weekly by fellow athletes' voting on who they believe is embodying the Taranis Community Open spirit)

  • 1-3 points for Sports-personship (awarded by coaches)

  • 1 point for PRs (ie there is a repeat open workout, or a personal PR like double unders, or Rxing a workout for first time, etc)

  • 1-3 points for social media posts

📝 Team Points

Judging:

You are encouraged to judge before or after your own WOD heat on Saturdays. Judging is one of the ways you score points for your team. The weekly judging sign-up sheet is in the gym by the team board behind the erg bikes. WE NEED YOU!
